Our designers utilise the latest steelwork design software packages including TEKLA STRUCTURES, STRUCAD and REVIT incorporating the latest updates to BS5950 or BS EN 1993. Gorge are a big believer in the Intelligent Use of Technology by the Construction Sector to help talented engineers and teams to improve the built environment.
Our Manufacturing Capabilities
We have a very experienced skilled workforce that can undertake any type of fabrication to the highest level. Rigorous Quality control procedures, as part of our ISO 9001 certified Quality Management System, ensure that all our steelwork is fabricated in accordance with NSSS tolerances. We have invested heavily in the latest production and finishing techniques, which means you’re assured of your project being manufactured to exceed the most exacting and efficient standards of today.
Gorge offers a full painting capability for its steelwork, allowing it to meet the most demanding of specifications and turnaround times. This includes shot blasting capability and range of surface finish options including Paint, Intumescent fire protection, Bituminous and Galvanising.
Gorge’s typical specification for structural steelwork is shot blasted to grade SA 2.5 and Shop Primer Finish Expoxy Zinc Phoshate 75 microns nominal D.F.T before despatch.
Gorge is proud of its highly trained construction team. Working closely and collaboratively with our drawing office and contract project management teams, they use the latest technology and equipment onsite, and are leaders in Steel Erection.
Health, Safety and the Welfare of our team and people is the highest priority for Gorge. The company always take a pro-active approach to ensuring safe delivery of works. Before we start on-site a Risk Assessment is created, and a Method Statement is developed detailing the approach to completing the work. All Erectors on-site are briefed and committed to the Method Statement and a Site Manager controls Erection Sequence and Health & Safety.
All members of the team on-site are fully trained and carry CSCS cards. The company provide detailed H&S briefings, as well as reminders and H&S tool box talks. Gorge have a Zero tolerance policy to Site Safety risks. In addition to the above, our H&S managers regularly carry out inspections to Sites to ensure strict compliance to the Method Statement. Where applicable, our project contract managers are also in regular contact with Programme Site Managers to ensure efficient and safe coordination of works.
We can offer a combined package of steelwork, roofing and wall cladding providing our customers with new build schemes, a complete building envelop solution. Via our partners we provide a full turnkey offering adding considerable value to the construction programme, and enabling building owners to deliver on their sustainability and building energy performance goals.
Gorge operate across a range of product groups including Insulated Panel Systems, Architectural Façade Systems, Architectural Roofing Systems, and Door Components.
Gorge have extensive experience using Tekla Structures and BIM on building projects. Primary experience is with Tekla Structures. The business also have extensive experience with CAD via Strucad which was used across all parts of its value chain and interaction with customers, advisors, internally and with supply chain partners.
BIM is becoming increasingly essential for collaboration within the Construction supply chain, across the various stakeholders involved in the project delivery; – such as the design, detailing, professional teams and various trade contractors. The level of adoption, good practice and the increased breadth of use has meant that many shared benefits can now exist between Gorge and our customers in the form of greater visualisation, better coordinated designs, common understanding of the functionality and specification of buildings from the outset of a project – meaning less risk and better managed expectations.
The use of BIM is used across all stages of construction – design, estimating, pre-construction, and construction management through to practical completion on-site. As a practical tool, its inter-operability with other software packages used by stakeholders allows for a common view to be created and issues, decisions and actions to be more readily made through the programme. If we are provided with a Revit Model we are able to return an updated As-Built model for the client as part of the O&M manual.
Our Customers regularly request we review already designed projects and help them identify areas where additional cost savings or value can be created. Our expert knowledge of steel construction, secondary steelwork and the overall construction process enables our design team to provide advice which often leads to considerable savings in programme durations, material, fabrication and erection costs.
This approach often has secondary benefits of reducing overall frame weight thus positively impacting the overall programme cost indirectly. Our advice is often sought by Leading Chartered Surveyors and Development Managers, utilising Steel Construction, who are seeking to optimise their schemes profitability.
A few recent examples include residential developments with high steel content, and in particular volume build PRS (private rented sector) schemes and student accommodation via Modular construction.
